You could consider an open, infective license to ensure that all usefull 
modifications flow back to the project. Consider opening a paypall 
account for the project and explaining where you need to spend the money 
on. If you ask nicely for it, the people that use it in a commercial 
environment might actually donate.

This would mean that the labour you have put into it upto now would not 
be payed for.

Since you would be the specialist, anybody needing consultancy services 
to extend worldkit would come to you. You might earn something that way.
